CHARLOTTE ROYALS JOIN NATIONAL LEAGUE The Charlotte Royals 17u/Jr. team has been accepted into the Nike National Youth Basketball League. The team will play a 15 game schedule at league Jamborees in Hampton VA, Houston TX, and Los Angeles CA in April and May. League competition will determine the qualifiers for the July Peach Jam in Augusta GA, which will crown the league champion. |

* The Royals 17u team earned a medal
for their 14th place finish at the AAU National JR. Boys Championship.
The 164 team field was the largest in AAU history,and was attended by
more than 800 college coaches,and dozens of media representatives. It
is the tenth time in 18 years that the Royals have medaled in the 17u
age group. The team finished 21-14 against a challenging national schedule.
Opponents came from 18 states and the District of Columbia. |
* Bruce Kreutzer:
named director of Player Development for the NBA Developmental league.
Bruce helped organize the first Royals teams in 1982 while coaching
at Garinger High,and he coached the first game for the club. Bruce has
always been a great teacher of the game. Congratulations to him on the
new position. |
* NBA Ref: Haywoode
Workman, a 10-year NBA veteran and Royals player in 83 and 84, is a
rookie NBA Referee. Haywoode played at Myers Park High School
and Oral Roberts University. |
* Reggie Love: served
the Barack Obama campaign as the candidate's "body man", or personal
assistant during the recent presidential election. Reggie played
at Providence Day School, played football and basketball at Duke. |
* Seaford Elected:
Royals president Rod Seaford was recently elected to a four-year term
to the Board of Directors for USA Basketball. USAB is the national
governing body for the sport, and is responsible for the selection and
management of the Olympic team, as well as the junior and developmental
national teams. The eleven member board is chaired by Phoenix
Suns Chairman Jerry Coangelo and includes Stu Jackson (NBA), Bob Kanaby
(NFHSAA) and Chris Plonsky (NCAA). "It's an honor to be asked
to work with this prominent group. I look forward to helping guide the
direction of the sport for the next four years" said Seaford.
USAB has created a developmental national team and has increased its
emphasis on opportunities for the youth athlete. |
